I agree totally with you and your friend Ullie. I guess I was lucky in not having to erect scaffolding. My future husband stayed over one night after a drinking session, we slept together and he never left. We've been married 15 years so I guess it got serious. Talk about not having expectations! ;)

I believe there is much to be said for having a positive attitude tempered with a bit of realism. I don't susbscribe to the view for example that like always attracts like.
Arming yourself with the capability to deal with what life throws at you is key for me; knowing I can now do that is what makes my attitude positive.
Expectations in my view are a whole different story. I've only ever seen them as hollow wishes usually requiring the compliance of others.
I guess it all comes down to self-sufficiency and that old adage "if you want something doing, do it yourself" ..
Does that all sound too negative? I hope not!

I like what you're saying, but where do you stand on the difference between having expectations and having a postive attitude?
My own view is that to project anything at all on to another person carries with it the seeds of potential disappointment. What we can do is to project on to ourselves and be prepared to take what comes. Hope I'm being suitably obscure?

"But if you really can’t help yourself donning a hard hat and erecting some scaffolding in preparation…. then learn to let them go gracefully."

... and make it a pink hard hat if you can find one....
